It’s National Sunglasses Day! Do You Wear Them ?

by The Paparazzi on June 27, 2012

National Sunglasses Day, are you a person that can’t go without them or never wear ?

I do not spend alot of money on my sunglasses. There are two reasons…I break them and I loose them. How about you are you the type to spend alot on designer frames or are you like me and go off the rack at the drug store because you know you’ll be replacing them eventually ? For some you may wear prescription sunglasses.

So on this National “Sunglasses” Day …. Tell us about your habits. Post your comments here!

If you have a certain brand you love tell us about them ?

EyeSave Tip: There may be nothing more exasperating than choosing a new pair of sunglasses for the season. You stand in the store trying on pair after pair asking your friends or perfect strangers, “How do these look on me?” The process can take hours if you wander from store to store seeking that perfect style. It can take even longer if you’re looking for more than one pair.

How do you make the process easier? It’s simple. Start by choosing a good designer like Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses. Then visit only the places that sell that brand. Finally, use a chart to figure out your face shape; doing this will help you only pick out the glasses that have the potential to look great on your face, instead of trying them all.

So, when you’re choosing sunglasses, do some homework before you start shopping. It’ll save not only you time, but it’ll save you from asking perfect strangers for their opinion.

How to Determine Your Face Shape

First thing’s first, let’s determine your face shape. Here are a few things you’ll need to get started:

1. a tape measureFace Shape Chart

2. a pad and pen

3. a mirror in a well-lit place, like the bathroom

Now you need to measure across your face at the forehead, eyes, cheekbones and chin then vertically from your forehead to the tip of your chin. Write down each measurement and use the following guide along with this face shape chart:

*If the length of your face equals one and a half times the width, you have an oval-shaped face.

*If your face is as wide as it is long, it is circle-shaped.

*If your face is longer than it is wide, you have an oblong-shaped face.

*If your face is more circle or oval than oblong and you have a narrow chin and wide cheekbones, then you have a heart-shaped face.

*If your face is as wide as it is long but with a more angular shape than a round face, you have a square face.

*If your face is wide at the cheekbones but narrow at the forehead and jaw, you have a diamond-shaped face.

Choosing the Right Sunglasses for Your Face Shape

Now that you’ve determined your face shape, you can easily pick a pair of sunglasses that will look best on you. Here is a simple list on which frames go with which face shape and which sunglasses trend you might need to avoid:

1. OVAL- a lot of frames go well with oval-faced shapes. Try aviators, cat-eyes, round and odd shapes like the Lolita heart-shaped sunglasses. Just make sure not to pick a pair that is wider than the widest part of your face.

2. ROUND- lengthen your face with square-shaped sunglasses or aviators. Avoid round and heart-shaped shades.

3. SQUARE- lengthen your face with sunglasses that are wider than they are tall, but you also need to stick with curved frames like ovals and aviators to soften you face. Stay away from square and cat-eye sunglasses.

4. OBLONG- balance your face with frames that are taller than they are wide like aviators and some oval-shaped sunglasses. However, they need to be as wide as your face, so avoid circular shades or heart-shaped shade.

5. HEART-SHAPED/ TRIANGLE- you need to draw attention down from your forehead using sunglasses that are wider at the bottom or are rimless. Avoid cat-eyes and sunglasses that have embellishments at the top of the frames.

6. INVERTED TRIANGLE/ PEAR-SHAPED- the opposite of the heart-shaped face, you want to draw attention upward with top-heavy shades like cat-eyes, wayfarers or frames that are embellished on the top only.

7. DIAMOND- you need to draw attention upward with top-heavy shades. Try cat-eyes, aviators and some rectangular. Avoid circular or rimless sunglasses.
